It has been narrated that a man came to the Prophet ๏ทบ and said:
โO Messenger of Allah ๏ทบ! My father takes my money.โ
The Prophet ๏ทบ said:
โGo and call your father for me!โ
Then Jibril came to the Prophet ๏ทบ and said:
โAllah greets you with Salam and says: โWhen the old man comes to you, ask him about something he said in his heart that his ears didnโt hear.โโ
When the old man came, the Prophet ๏ทบ said:
โYour son has complained that you are taking his money.โ
He said:
โAsk him O Messenger of Allah ๏ทบ, do I not use it only on his paternal aunties or his maternal aunties, or on myself?โ
Then the Prophet said:
โLetโs leave this and tell me what you said in your heart that your ears didnโt hear.โ
The old man said:
โBy Allah, O Messenger of Allah ๏ทบ, Allah is still increasing us in goodness by you. I said in my heart something that my ear didnโt hear.โ
The Prophet ๏ทบ said:
โSay it so I can hear.โ
The man said (some lines of poetry):
โI nourished you when you were a baby.
And I looked after you in care as you grew up until you became an adolescent.
You lived upon what I worked, strived, and sacrificed my body, time, and wealth for, so that you may live healthily.
Whenever a night passed you when you were sick, your sickness kept me up in sorrow.
I was afraid for you even though I knew that death was set at an appointed time.
It was as if I was the one afflicted by sickness, not you, so my eyes were in tears for you.
Then when you reached adulthood, which I was anticipating and looking forward to all my life.
You gave me a reward, and your reward was harshness and mistreatment.
As if I am the one who owes you, and you owe me nothing.
If only, since you couldnโt fulfill my rights on you as a father, you treated me as a neighbor treats his neighbor.โ
The Prophet ๏ทบ grabbed the son by his chest and said to him:
